PRC Eager to Refocus; Block: 'It's Been a Pleasure'

Today, Jerome Block Jr. tendered his official resignation from the PRC, effective Friday, Oct. 7. In a news release,  Chairman Pat Lyons says the PRC's eager to move on.

Block agreed to resign Sept. 28, in a deal that included his pleading guilty to various charges of embezzlement, fraud, identity theft and election violations.

In his formal resignation letter, Block writes that "it has truly been a pleasure serving the people of New Mexico." Read the full letter below.

Along with Block's resignation after a scandal-plagued campaign and partial PRC term, the commission released a statement saying it "looks forward to getting back to business."

From the presser:

“Today, we as a Commission accepted Jerome’s resignation from the PRC, and while we hope he gets the help and support he needs during this trying time, the citizens of New Mexico deserve a Commission that is 100 percent focused on the regulatory matters before it,” Lyons said. “Unfortunately, the allegations surrounding former Commissioner Block overshadowed the important work this Commission is tasked to perform.  We now look forward to continuing our efforts without this unfortunate distraction."

At latest count, 87 hopefuls have submitted resumes to be considered for Block's PRC seat.
