AG Unveils Human-Trafficking Awareness Buses

Two buses to run in Santa Fe

By Alexa Schirtzinger
AG trafficking

Today, as part of his office's campaign against human trafficking, New Mexico Attorney General Gary King unveiled a fleet of buses aimed at increasing public awareness of the problem.

Assistant AG Maria Sánchez-Gagne tells SFR the campaign will include three buses in Albuquerque, two in Las Cruces and two in Santa Fe.

Victims of human trafficking, she says, "don't self-report--that's why it's so important to make sure the public is aware."

Sánchez-Gagne says the AG's office has just prosecuted its first two cases after the passage of the 2008 law making human trafficking a felony crime in New Mexico. As to whether the law is having any effect on reducing human-trafficking here, she says, "It's too early to tell."
