Magistrate Judge facing foreclosure

Bank demanding over $200,000

By Wren Abbott
Foreclosures.

Santa Fe County Magistrate Court Judge George Anaya Jr defaulted on the mortgage on his Santa Fe house and is facing foreclosure, according to documents filed in state District Court today.

US Bank filed a complaint for foreclosure against Anaya Jr and his wife Patricia today alleging Anaya Jr. has defaulted on mortgage payments on his $200,000 property beginning in August of last year. He bought the house in October 2005, according to the filings.

The complaint states that US Bank is declaring the outstanding balance plus attorney's fees due immediately. With interest, Anaya Jr owes $218,812, plus the attorney's fees and post-judgment interest.

The court issued a summons to Anaya Jr and his wife, requiring them to file an answer to the complaint within 30 days or face a default judgment. The house could be seized by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office pending court approval.

Anaya Jr couldn't be reached for immediate comment.
