Foundation for Open Government, Attorney General's Office Weigh in on Public Records Fees

State and local public agencies can no longer charge big copy fees, especially when reporters or members of the public make their own copies with scanners or digital cameras, FOG and AG's office say.

The basic upshot here is that no matter a document's format, public agencies must charge only "reasonable" fees for copying—and if we do the copying ourselves, they shouldn't be charging us anything at all. Read for yourself:
