Afro-Haitian Homage

By Ramon Lovato
haiti-benefit-sf-railyard-0525 More current news seems to have pushed this year’s Haiti earthquake a bit out of the spotlight. But it is important to note that, for those in Haiti, the devastation is still very real. On Saturday, July 24, the Railyard Performance Center hosted a benefit for the people of Haiti. Don’t know about the Railyard Performance Center? Head over to the Santa Fe Farmers Market on a Saturday morning and listen for the drumming and festivities across the tracks.

Performances included Abdoulaye Camara, Soriba Fofana, Elise Gent with D'Jeune D'Jeune, Hountor Gent,  Leslie Satin, Fred Simpson and others in singing, drumming and dancing. A silent auction and a dance party with The Andé Marimba Band rounded out the event.

SFR (and former SFR intern Chloe Davis) provides this slide show for your viewing pleasure.

Pure energy! I loved the entire evening.  You could tell that everyone performing as well as the audience truly put their hearts and souls into this fantastic event.
