It's a Hoax!

By Alexa Schirtzinger

Yesterday afternoon, the Santa Fe County Clerk's office sent out a public notice: They're being impersonated. From the release:
Property owners...have reported receiving advertisements via mail offering to provide, for a fee ($59.50), copies of their recorded deeds.  These advertisements are addressed to the property owner and cite the Santa Fe County's recording number.

The letter looks official with a heading stating “regarding Santa Fe County Clerk Document #...”  Please be advised that these services are not affiliated with nor underwritten by the Santa Fe County Clerk's Office.

At the real clerk's office, they charge $2 for the first page and $1 per page thereafter, and you can request deed copies through their website. So, yeah. Don't go sending $59.50 to anyone who asks.
