The snow flurried this morning, and the temperatures induced a few shivers, but the January weather only served as proof that New Mexico pro-choicers are not to be underestimated.

"[Roe v. Wade] is under attack!" announced Planned Parenthood's Martha Edmonds, addressing a crows of approximately 50 men and women outside the Roundhouse bearing signs, shirts and buttons that read, "Against abortion? Don't have one."

"We are shocked that we may come out of health care reform in worse shape than we were!" Edmonds continued. The protesters nodded in agreement.

"We need to keep abortion legal—but that's not enough," she added. "It has to be covered, and it has to be available."

The rally featured a respectable pro-choice lineup, from Southwest Women's Law Center founder Jane Wishner to representatives from the ACLU and NOW (the National Organization for Women).

After the rally ended with the announcement that some of the late Kansas abortion provider George Tiller's patients may be coming to New Mexico, ten of the violet-shirted women filed into the Senate Gallery and sat quietly upstairs to make their point.
