It's almost that time again. 2010 is an election year, and Lynn Gary, the election workers coordinator for the Santa Fe County Bureau of Elections, wants you—yes, you—to work the polls or, at the very least, to vote.




Whether you're an election worker (compensated $130 for a 14-hour day at the polls; presiding judges get $150) or a mere voter, it's time to update your address so that you end up voting in the right place, Gary says. People who have old Rural Route addresses will need to switch their registration to their official 911 addresses, since the US Post Office (slackers that they are) doesn't deliver to Rural Route addresses. People who have moved should also update their addresses, Gary notes, because people who end up voting in the wrong precinct are choosing a candidate who won't represent them: "They're kind of disenfranchising themselves," Gary says.
