Still A Chance For NNSA In Stimulus Bill?

By Corey Pein
As reported here yesterday and here today, someone in Congress removed $900 million for the National Nuclear Security Administration—read: big New Mexico employer—from the federal stimulus bill. But who?

"I don't know that we'll ever find out," says Jude McCartin, spokesperson for US Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM).

McCartin hesitates to confirm that the NNSA money has actually, for sure, been nixed. "We still haven't seen the final document," McCartin says.

Hm...Could the NNSA money be in the bill under another name? "There's a case where school construction doesn't have a line item, but it's been made part of another program. I don't think that's the case with this," McCartin says.
