Death penalty heard on the House floor (UPDATED: House passes repeal, 40-23)

By SFR Staff
UPDATE: HB 285 to repeal the death penalty passed in the House 40-23. More details tomorrow on the breakdown. (For those live blogging along, I'm sorry I had to leave right when they were getting to the vote. Misadventures in live-blogging.)

From mid-afternoon, Feb. 11:

The New Mexico House of Representatives should be debating the death penalty within the next hour or so. Rep. Gail Chasey, D-Bernalillo, introduced HB 285 this session to abolish the death penalty. It's ninth on the calendar for today's floor session, currently in progress.
