In this town, you’ve gotta jump on the punk shows as quickly as you can. Thus, I went to check out local boys HN-88 and El Paso, Texas’ Antigone. I’ll say right now it wasn’t the greatest show I’ve ever been to in my life—frankly, I felt old while watching those young “punks” cavort around—but, as you’ll soon find out, I absolutely salute both The Underground and the bands for taking a punk rock stab in a town without pity.

The Santa Fe Bandstand has always seemed like a great idea on paper. Tons of local and national acts descend upon the Plaza for several weeks of varied and exciting music. Awesome, right? Mostly.

I’m not saying it’s easy to come up with a good band name. Hell, I spent years in a band called (don’t) shoot noah!, and the only thing worse than our stupid name was our stupid music.

As much as I kind of loathe Pitchfork, I do have to give credit to those clowns for jumping on the summer-festival bandwagon. Hell, if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the likes of Coachella or Sasquatch, it’s that there’s an assload of trust-fund “indie” kids who just aren’t living unless they’re dehydrated in a gorge somewhere.

That greatest of music-sharing haters, Lars Ulrich, is breaking into the world of acting (gross). Appearing as documentarian Joris Ivens in the upcoming HBO movie Hemingway & Gellhorn, Ulrich’s transition totally freaks me out. But it does, however, get me thinking about what kinds of roles I’d like to see some of my favorite local musicians tackle.
