Resolvency

Local musicians have big plans for the upcoming year

It's that time of the year when we all start looking at our lives and making resolutions for the new year. And though many of us will undoubtedly choose things to be all gung-ho about for like, three weeks before we get back to sleeping in and drinking too much and saying things like, "Aw, the gym will be there tomorrow!" some of your favorite locals (and mine) are already putting together their game plans for the next year of their careers. Let's check in with a varying cross section of these fine troubadours to see what we might be able to expect.

Jacob "Chromealiene" Tafoya (hip-hop)
Chromealiene will be at work on his first LP at Warehouse 21.

Jerry Sandoval (Sputniq, rock)
Mine is to get merch and recordings up and running by the time summer break rolls around.

Johny Broomdust (Broomdust Caravan, country)
A new Broomdust Caravan CD, a few less local shows and lots more travel!

Sattva Ananda (DJ)
Touring, a new album entitled The Moon is My Favorite Color, remixes for Bionik, HR from Bad Brains and Mr. Jennings, and lots more in the works from the label I'm on, Party Time Society.

Daniel Mench-Thurlow (Venus and the Lion, rock)
Taking the bands and hitting the road.

Ross Hamlin (müShi Trio, avant-jazz)
I smell the long-anticipated birth of the Berklee City Music Network in our schools, a müShi 2.0 recording and more live guests; another slamming summer of Candyman Rock Camp and a pronounced increase of Santa Fe University of Art and Design students in our greater community.

Eryn Bent (Americana)
A solo album, the start of band album No. 2, lots of gigs with the band, more songs and more touring—new cities!

Jono Manson (rock, Americana, etc.)
I'm leaving to start my first tour of 2015—this time with Brothers Keeper—and I'll be back towards the end of January to jump back into work in the studio. [I'll be] finishing albums for David Berkeley, Jamie Michaels and others. I'll continue to play periodic local shows, including kicking off the [Music on the] Hill series on June 10, but there's lots of producing and touring on the horizon. As for the local scene, I hope that all local musicians can raise our level of collaboration and continue to garner increased respect.

Alysha Shaw (Rumelia, folk/world/Balkan)
For me personally, it's to sing and play more music in English, work on more original stuff, get better at playing the mandolin. In terms of the larger local context, I want to see and help more networking, resource sharing and collaboration happen.

Roland Osteheim (We Drew Lightning, Ēsthöm, rock/experimental)
[The] new We Drew Lightning album is nearly finished and a full-length Ēsthöm album…we're ready to record a bunch of songs!

Angela Gabriel (Hidden Whale, rock)
Hidden Whale album release!

Megan Burns (Flamingo Pink!, indie/acoustic/electronic)
I'm going to collaborate with others more and get the Flamingo Pink! band going. I'd like to do at least one tour in 2015, and I'd like to figure out how to play my electronic albums live.

Jason Goodyear (educator/electronic musician)
Release the album I've been working on for so long—it's almost done. More performing. Grow the ties between the Santa Fe Community College Reason and Live show and the community, and get more people to take audio classes at SFCC…encourage SFUAD students to get off campus and perform.

Ben Wright (Mi, D Numbers, rock/experimental/electronic)
Upcoming in 2015 are huge Mesa Recordings releases like Time For Trees in February, a huge Mesa Recordings remix compilation in March, Feathericci in June or July and Mi in September.

Ben Durfee (Octaveleven, indie/synth)
Undertake a huge and currently under wraps audio installation.

Anthony Leon (rock/Americana)
The fourth [Anthony Leon & the] Chain album, more live theater, spend less on bar tabs…more Christmas songs for 2015.

So how about you, Santa Fe? The community at large, I mean. Drop me a line at music@sfreporter.com and get in on the conversation. From the sounds of things, this will be one of the most exciting years in local music yet, but as always,it'll only be as strong as you make it.
