Crime Decline

Police say November property crime rates are lowest in a decade

November 2014 property crime rates clocked in at the lowest rates in over a decade, say Santa Fe Police Department officials.

Police reported 72 property crimes last month, a 41 percent decline from 122 property crimes November 2013.

Property crimes include residential, commercial and auto burglary, as well as attempted burglary and unlawful entry.

SFPD Chief Eric Garcia told SFR in July that he wanted to throw more resources at what he characterized as the department's "effective" full court press program that targets repeat offenders and hotspots for burglaries.

But December got off to a bad start, with police reporting five cases of burglaries and unlawful entry on Dec. 1, including a burglary at a PNM transfer station at 4035 Richards Ave.; a residential burglary on the 100 block of West Zia Road; a TV stolen from a residence on the 2300 block of Cedros Circle; an Xbox 360 and TV stolen from a residence on the 1600 block of Agua Fria; and an unlawful entry on the 5900 block of Jaguar Drive.
