Southwest CARE's annual gala dawns anew

One of the great things about us human beings is that we generally and genuinely care about what happens to others. Empathy is hardwired into the DNA of most people, and there is always some level of spiritual benefit to be had when supporting work and research for any disease or cause.

Of course, this doesn't mean that we can't very well enjoy ourselves while we fight tragedy, and this is where events like Southwest CARE Center's Aid & Comfort Gala comes in. The Breakfast at Tiffany's-themed night of hors d'oeuvres, bubbly and fancy silent-auction action is split up into 2 parties. The first of which, a preview reception, goes down at 6:30 pm and will feature a sneak peak at the items up for auction as well as standards and Broadway tunes performed by local piano genius David Geist and his sometimes vocal partner, Julie Trujillo.

"The outreach work that Southwest CARE does is truly amazing, which is why I'm honored to be a part of their gala," Geist says. "I'm psyched to create a swanky, New York-like vibe with the music I'll be performing that night."

At $100, the early access is a great way to help a little extra while getting the jump on your potential silent auction adversaries. Of course, the main event goes down at 8 pm, and the $50 cover not only gets you through the door, but you'll be treated to the swing-era tunes of Pleasure Pilots followed by the high-energy dance jams of DJ Luna.

Ultimately, we're talking about a great excuse to dress fancy and hit the town in a fashion for which Santa Fe isn't usually outfitted, all while enjoying one of the most diverse musical lineups of all time. Even better is that 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to help people living with HIV/AIDS, and parties don't get much better than when they're helping people, wouldn't you say?
