Free Ride

All city buses are free this weekend in honor of arts markets

August 22, 2014, 2:00 pm

The Indigenous Fine Art Market and Santa Fe Indian Market bring wares, but not bus fares.

The city of Santa Fe is offering residents and visitors free bus services this weekend in conjunction with the markets.

Any route on Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm is free, according to the city.

Special routes are also planned for the weekend. Saturday, a South Capitol route will take riders downtown from the hub near the Rail Runner station. A route from Santa Fe Place Mall to downtown will make stops along Cerrrillos Road. Both routes will run from 6:30 am to 5:45 pm.

Sunday, buses will be free from 8:30 am to 6:45 pm. The two special routes from South Capitol and Santa Fe Place Mall run from 7:45 am to 5:45 pm Sunday.

The Downtown Transit Center is temporarily relocated to West Alameda between Guadalupe Street and Sandoval Street for the weekend. The city says customer service representatives with Santa Fe Trails will "also ensure riders are able find their correct routes home or to other destinations around the city," says the release.

"Riders are reminded that the express route is in addition to the normal routes offered this weekend, and that all routes will take individuals downtown for the markets," says the release. "Passengers are not limited to taking the Route 2 or 4 buses."

If any tourists happen to be reading this, SFR strongly encourages you to take advantage of these buses. Let's face it: Slow rolling your fancy rentals through our town will get you confused—and us angry.
