Santa Fe teens dreams of shot at American Idol

July 15, 2014, 9:50 am

Gray skies and rain haven’t stopped people from chasing their rock star dreams in New Mexico today.

Nearly 1,000 people are braving the wet weather and standing in long lines to audition for television’s American Idol in Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza.

Santa Fe teenager Tristin Gonzales, 17, drove down to Albuquerque with her father and little sister. Wearing a poncho and prepared for the weather, Gonzales tells SFR that she’s been practicing Imagine Dragon’s "Radioactive" all week. With wet weather and chilly summer temperatures, Gonzales may need a cup of hot chocolate to warm her voice up before hitting the stage.

American Idol’s audition bus started its summer tour in Portland, Oregon earlier this month and heads to Amarillo, Texas after wrapping up auditions in New Mexico.
