MUSIC, JAN. 1: “BOREDOM SLAYER FOR MAYOR”

FROM THESE EYES

I appreciate Alex De Vore’s article that explored the issue of nightlife with the mayoral candidates. It is an important issue that needs to be looked at when choosing our next mayor.

But I was honestly hoping for more distinction with Javier Gonzales. Along with myself, many of the DJ’s, musicians, producers and representatives of ‘nightlife’ in this city are fully supporting Javier, including Paul Feathericci, Joe Ray Sandoval, Pablo Paz, Gabriel Rima, Augustine Ortiz, Isaiah Rodriguez, Mikey Baker, MC Clymer, Joseph Pulse NM, and The Santa Fe VIP, to name a few.

The article sort of made all the candidates seem equal on this issue—which, from the eyes of us involved in nightlife is simply not the case. It is pretty clear which candidate has actually engaged with our communities, which candidate has made an effort to get to know us, and which candidate has actually come to the events that we produce, which candidate authentically wants to see a flourishing nightlife economy in our city—it’s Javier.

MOVIES, DEC. 18: “AMERCAN MEH”

“ACTING”

The first article to hit the nail on the head, in my opinion, with one exception: I love Louis CK, and I never bought him as the FBI chief he is supposedly playing. Call it bad writing, bad direction or lack of both, but I was always aware it was Louis CK “acting,” except for that moment he gets to have his Russell scream fest.

PLEASE!

In spite of your unnamed reviewer [David Riedel’s] report, regarding American Hustle, my wife, 23-yearold daughter and myself attended a showing at the Dreamcatcher yesterday afternoon. We loved the movie and I am totally perplexed at your reviewer calling this film a bore. Please! This movie will be nominated for an Academy Award. Get another reviewer, please.

NEWS, DEC. 18: “SOMETHING FISHY AT THE STATE GAME DEPARTMENT”

NASTY

I attended Commission meetings for 15 years until Lane and McClintic took over. They were so incredibly rude and intimidating to wildlife conservationists that took the time and effort to travel to these meetings. Anyone who had the courage to speak out about their anti-wildlife conservation agenda was treated with such disdain. Unfortunately, the Commission has now turned it all over to Kirkpatrick, who is smarter than Lane and more dangerous. He also has a nasty intimidation background that brought on a lawsuit for the Game and Fish Department. Why does this state keep going down the same rotten road? It looks like nothing will change until there are no wildlife for the hunters to kill. Perhaps getting rid of the seven-person commission would be a good start.

They are all put on the commission because of politics and the money they give to the governor’s campaign. Right now, there is not a single wildlife conservationist serving on a board that is heavy on ranchers and farmers.
