Olympic Dreams

The Santa Fe Skating Club is hosting a holiday figure skating show featuring two winter Olympic hopefuls. Figure-skating pair Alexa Scimeca, 22, and Chris Knierim, 26, 2013 US National Pairs Silver Medalists, will join “talented local and regional skaters” at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center on Dec. 14-15. The show, a celebration of the upcoming 2014 Winter Games, is called Destination Sochi: To Russia With Love. Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and up; $7 for ages 2-11; and free for anyone under 2. Scimeca and Knierim tell SFR they’ve been skating together for about a year and a half. The two are training for a national competition in January that will decide whether they’re one of the two pair teams to represent the US in the Sochi games. The two say their training regimen—they take Sundays off—has been intense. “We’re excited,” Knierim says. (Justin Horwath)
