Farewell Speech For Coss

October 22, 2013, 10:00 pm

Mayor David Coss was preparing to issue his eighth and final “State of the City” address Tuesday night at press time. Coss, who isn’t seeking re-election to the job he’s held for two terms, planned to use the speech to admonish current and future elected officials, and, gasp, the local press. “Tonight I want to issue a challenge, particularly to all of the candidates running for office, but also to the media who will cover the election and shape the dialogue, and to every member of this community: be accountable for moving Santa Fe forward,” reads his prepared remarks. “Be accountable for doing it in a productive and progressive way.” The speech also calls on US Rep. Steve Pearce to change his stance against immigration reform.  In addition, Coss, a longtime union supporter, planned to remind managers at Christus St. Vincent Regional Hospital that “Santa Fe wants a fair union contract for our hospital workers.” (Julie Ann Grimm)
