Chocolate Maven

October 16, 2013, 12:00 am

It’s probably been said countless times, but a brunch is only as good as its eggs Benedict. That bafflingly simple yet often poorly prepared egg dish is the staple of “the brunch experience.” On that front, Chocolate Maven does not disappoint. Their eggs Benedict is probably the best variation of the dish you can get in town. Why? Well, the answer is simple: any great eggs Benedict must have a great Hollandaise sauce, and Chocolate Maven’s is as close to perfection as it comes. Served with a nicely seasoned mélange of roasted potatoes, the Benedict hits every note—a nice crisp English muffin, vibrant Canadian bacon and absolutely perfectly poached eggs (not a ragged edge to be found). Other brunch fare from the wizards at the Maven include almond-chocolate crêpes, an almost overwhelmingly decadent brunch dish of Chantilly cream, chocolate ganache and slivered almonds that would count as dessert for your entire party in most restaurants. While you’re there, make sure you check out their counter-service bakery items—the backbone of the Maven’s business and for good reason. From untouchable carrot cakes and beautiful pies to the tastiest bread you can buy in Santa Fe, Maven never disappoints.
