Remember the Fall Open House in middle school, where you’d wait at home while your parents phantomed your classes and your teachers briefed them on your progress and showed them the paper-plate turkey you crafted in homeroom? Well, Kindred Spirits is reviving that old-school tradition, a throwback to those awkward years we all shared—except this open house is all about the elder-care animal sanctuary, where, rather than boasting a paper-plate turkey, they’ve got the real deal (a live senior-citizen turkey). They invite the public to tour the grounds, socialize with some of the elders (horses, dogs and that turkey they promised), and hear free talks about animal care by owner Ulla Pedersen, Sue McKelvey and (my favorite, with the best moniker in town) Breck Breckenridge.
Kindered Spirits Open House:
10 am-4 pm Saturday, Sept. 28.
Free. Kindred Spirits, 3749-A Hwy. 14,
