The Española Humane Society believes that hairballs and sociopathic indifference don’t justify a death sentence—at least when it comes to kittens. This weekend, the society gathers at the 6th Annual Kitten Festival, New Mexico’s largest all-feline inmate transfer. Attendees can snatch kittens from their holding cells, and take ‘em to their armchairs. The kitties come spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped; and they arrive with free food, a vet visit, carrier and gifts. The society also offers discounts for those among us known as “cat-people.” Not satisfied with one cute and cuddly rodent assassin? Get a second for a fraction of the cost. Four cats isn’t enough? Get more for free! The fest includes games, door prizes, goodies and live music.
