The New Mexico History Museum celebrates Father’s Day with a festive nod to our state’s historical horseback-riding, chap-wearing past: the cowboy.

Upon entering the museum’s lobby, anticipate an official meet-and-greet by her majesties the Queen and Princess of Rodeo de Santa Fe. After the royal welcome, roam through the Cowboys Real and Imagined exhibit, a 500-year chronicle of the cowboy story.

The next part is where it gets interactive: JD Noble, co-owner of The HatSmith, demonstrates hat-shaping techniques and discusses lore of the hat...because what’s a cowboy without his trademark accoutrement? A poser.

Finally, professional photographer Cheron Bayna Ryan snaps headshots of fathers in said hats (BYOH or borrow one for the lot) to commemorate the day. Yeehaw, daddy!

Father’s Day Special:
1-3 pm Sunday, June 16. $9 (locals free).
NM History Museum, 113 Lincoln Ave., 476-5200
