West of Memphis aims to be the definitive West Memphis Three story [ok]

By David Riedel
movies_west_of_memphis West of Memphis aims to be the definitive West Memphis Three story.

Now that Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, the so-called West Memphis Three, are free, do we need more media devoted to them? There are the Paradise Lost documentaries, a Henry Rollins album and Echols just released a book.

It’s best to look at West of Memphis as The New Yorker of documentaries; it takes what is designed to be the definitive look at a story about which there is an abundance of information already available.

Of course, The New Yorker isn’t perfect. Neither is West of Memphis. The story is one-sided (though it’s hard to imagine the other side). Here, we see the entire grisly tale from beginning to end, from the murders of three young boys in West Memphis, Ark., to the trials and incarcerations of Echols, Misskelley and Baldwin, to their eventual release.

All the famous people who supported the three pop up, including Eddie Vedder, Natalie Maines and Peter Jackson. And though the filmmakers try to pin the killings on another person, it doesn’t quite work.

What does work are the movie’s smaller moments, such as the surprise on Baldwin’s face when he eats a Caesar salad for the first time and realizes there’s cheese in it.

this is a sad excuse for a movie, indeed it is one sided and sadly doesnt tell the truth about this case at all.  These men have one hell of a PR team that is spinning the story to fool as many as possible and sadly with the media being what it is today with "just copy and paste" any story without true investigative journalism at all which is a shock to us but now we see the truth and am dumbfounded by it all.  This man echols has made millions off of his crime and continues to do so with the help of toadies such as Delp and the dixie chicks who blindly follow him and refuse to really look at any real facts.

I am amazed at how so many can just blindly buy into this lie without looking at facts of the case, two juries found these men guilty as well as it being up held by the ar. suppreme court numerous times and then they lie and promote that they actually got a retrial which is a lie. Wow so many lies and so many buy into it without facts stuns me.

EVERY 'fact' in the prosecutions case can be debunked or refuted and has been. Of course there would have been a new trial, but taking a chance w/ another infected jury? The jury foreman in the Echols/Baldwin trial introduced Misskelley Jr's 'confession' to the other jurors. Yep.

They didn't even get a fair trial and I think I remember your comment from '93 Todd, when you said the three should be burned at the stake like the witches of Salem. Only problem w/ that is the fact they weren't witches and totally innocent.

Maybe you need to sit and listen to the intelligent people investigating this case and trying their best to bring out who REALLY killed your son and his friends. Open your eyes, man. You've been lied to.

There is a definite link somewhere in this case that involves a bunch of shady cops on the WMPD, CI's and meth abuse. I read Hutcheson's statement from 04.

The WM3 are free because the state of Arkansas screwed up royally right from the get go. I don't know you personally Todd, but it's a damn good bet if it was you searching the evening of the 5th, you would have either went by Catfish Island, or called there to see if your son was there. No one afforded Pam Hicks that luxury.
