Best Margarita

—Our State Cocktail!

By Gwyneth Doland

1 Maria’s New Mexican Kitchen
555 W. Cordova Road
505-983-7929

Maria’s is absolutely, positively the home of the margarita in Santa Fe.

It may be possible to argue about the provenance of the best margarita in the city. Sure, that’s debatable. But the best place for margaritas? There’s no question. The awe-inspiring breadth and depth of the tequila selection at Maria’s means that you could go to Maria’s every day for the rest of your life and probably never drink the same margarita twice. People with a passion for tequila will fall immediately in love with the bar at this traditional New Mexican restaurant. Made with lemon (not lime) juice and an infinite combination of ingredients, Maria’s margaritas will take you on the cocktail joyride of your life.

Be warned, however: These margs are strong and they sneak up on you. You get all caught up in the moment, and the next thing you know there’s lipstick all over your chin and you’re talking about that one time you made out with another girl and…Hey, I thought you were a vegetarian? Do you know you’re eating pork ribs? OMG! Arrange a designated driver.
