Best Restaurant for Vegetarians

Who Don't Just Eat Vegetables, You Know

1 Annapurna
905 W. Alameda St.
505-988-9688

This Albuquerque export, located next to La Montañita Coop, has captured the passion of Santa Fe’s vegetarians, ayurvedic followers and adventurous eaters. Much of the menu is fairly familiar Indian food, but there are also Mediterranean sandwiches, Asian noodles and Middle Eastern hummus.

The diversity of the menu makes sense when you understand that the vast majority of the dishes are not just vegetarian but also vegan. In addition, much of the menu is gluten-free. (Look for the icons denoting vegan and gluten-free.) Specialties here also include authentic chai and mango lassi, as well as baked goods that are made without eggs, honey, wheat, refined sugar, corn or peanuts. Annapurna is a paradise for people who are trying to avoid the ingredients that are ubiquitous in most other restaurants.

It’s just a strip mall space, but the vivid paint, curtains, cushions and music create an ambiance that’s exotic and welcoming.
