It doesn’t take two beats for Rachel Wexler, special projects administrator at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center, to tell you why the GC3 is Santa Fe’s top destination for working up a sweat.

“We have packaged together everything you could ever want under one roof,” she says. “There’s nothing else like it in the Southwest.” From ice skating to Olympic, leisure and therapy pools to basketball and racquetball courts, the GC3 almost starts to resemble a health-freak theme park more than…well, a community center. Need to shave off a few last-minute summer pounds? Look no further than the fitness center, which features dozens of cardio, cycling and resistance machines, a weight room and a full indoor running track. Many fitness classes are offered as well, including a Latin dance-inspired Zumba class and a Body Balance toning class, both new for this summer.

There’s never been a better excuse to get that bodybuilder physique—or at least get rid of that beer belly. (Alex Roberts)
