Best Grocery Store 2008

Hey, Do You Have More Than 15 Items in Your Basket?

July 24, 2008, 12:00 am
1 Trader Joe’s
530 W. Cordova Road

Look, everybody knows you shop at Trader Joe’s for the cheap wine, but if you need to make a show of it by throwing some white asparagus tips, orange blossom hand soap, dried sour cherries, Greek yogurt, Niman Ranch pork, ginger/almond granola and San Pellegrino in the cart, then go ahead. That’s what everybody else does! Dash in to grab a pre-made sandwich or salad for lunch and oh, hey, is that $6 Pinot Noir? Well, won’t that go well with the farfalle tonight? And making a quick stop for all-natural dog food and fennel toothpaste would be a waste of time if you didn’t come home with some Grüner Veltliner, right? How are you supposed to test the tensile strength of those fancy reusable bags if you don’t see how many bottles of Burgundy they’ll hold? Hell, the frisée and basil only weigh 2 ounces combined!

3 La Montañita Co-op
