Best Rock Band 2008

As In, Makes You Want To Rock Out

1 Alex Maryol Band
SFR readers have loved them some Alex Maryol for years now. The local blues wünderkind has grown up in the local spotlight because of his smokin’ licks. Lately, Maryol has added more of a rock flair to his straight-up blues sound and the response has been great. But all the attention hasn’t just been fun and games. In fact, there was a time when he wasn’t sure if he wanted to play music anymore, so he headed over to the College of Santa Fe to see what else was out there. What he discovered was a new love for his old flame. “Now if I know what I want something to sound like I don’t have to guess,” Maryol tells SFR of his nearly complete degree program in contemporary music performance and songwriting composition. Currently Maryol, whose band consists of bass player Willy Magee and drummer Andy Primm, is working on a five-song EP and writing songs for a new album while finishing school. Maybe he’ll invite us all to his graduation party in December to show off those new college-grad skills.
