Back in the day, pool halls were stuck in dark corners, but now you can rack ’em up in a new kind of game room over at The Cowgirl. Set on the corner of Guadalupe and Aztec streets, the poolroom at The ’Girl is bright, cheery, open and now has an upgraded air conditioner. “We’ve got a friendly kind of groove in there,” Cowgirl co-owner Nicholas Ballas says of the three-year-old space. “It’s a visible party and that really draws people in.” According to Ballas, the addition of the room was just part of “our ever-expanding, reinvention of ourselves.” For him, “if we stayed the same we wouldn’t make it, and we wouldn’t be us.” Once again, The Cowgirl proves that change, especially for the pool tables, is a good thing.
