Bob Martin, general manager of the Lensic, doesn’t give up many secrets. He won’t say what his favorite show of the last year was nor what he likes best about the theater. But he does attend just about every show that takes place there. With classical, world, jazz, country, pop and more, that’s a lot of music—and it doesn’t even touch on all the other events that take place throughout the year. “This has been the right space for so much music,” Martin tells SFR.

“I’m always amazed at what comes through here.” And what the Lensic lacks in dance space, it makes up for tenfold with the best balcony around. “A lot of people don’t think of the balcony,” Martin says, “but the sound up there is rich and the view is great.”So next time you find yourself at the movie-theater-turned-performance-space, sneak up to the cheap seats—they might be the best in town.
