Lisa Gulotta, fitness program supervisor at Genoveva Chavez Community Center, glows with enthusiasm about the opportunities for a workout at the eight-year-old complex: a weight room with free weights and machines, an aerobics room, three pools (including an Olympic-size monster and a therapy pool), a cardio room, spin bikes, several basketball courts, a year-round indoor ice rink, racquetball courts and more. But the facilities are only half the story. A packed schedule of classes and activities ensure there’s something for everyone. “We have eight yoga classes, senior fitness, a toddler class, 13 cycling classes, body sculpting, toning, cardio kickboxing, Nia and more,” a breathless but obviously fit Gulotta says. Personal training also is available from screened, auditioned, insured and licensed independent trainers. With a facility like this open to the public, Santa Feans should be able to wolf down all the blue corn chicken enchiladas they can manage, and still stay leaner than Clint Eastwood.
