I did not have to scrape my windows this morning. But I did spend the day talking about sonnets. Since it is National Poetry Month, here's Shakespeare's 98th:

From you have I been absent in the spring,
When proud-pied April, dressed in all his trim,
Hath put a spirit of youth in everything,
That heavy Saturn laughed and leaped with him,
Yet nor the lays of birds, nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odor and in hue,
Could make me any summer’s story tell,
Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew.

We are mid-Passover. Pesach Sameach to all. I noted that National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12) fell right in the middle. The food gods are unkind.

Easter is coming up on Sunday. I give a few suggestions on what you can make in this week's column, but what if you don't want to make anything?

Make your reservations now. Most restaurants seem to be filling up fast for their special Easter Sunday brunches. Once place that is running their normal routine and you won't have to worry about a RSVP is Café Pasqual's (121 Don Gaspar Ave., 983-9340). I am up for any meal there but there is something magical about that place on a holiday.

Anasazi Restaurant (Inn of the Anasazi 113 Washington Ave., 988-3236) is offering up a special menu for Easter that features lobster crepes and an amazing-sounding chorizo eggs Benedict. They also have a menu of 4 bloody Mary's—the "Mary Loves Bacon" features a bacon infused vodka. You will definitely need to call ahead, or book online HERE.


Something we maybe take for granted in Santa Fe is that while our restaurants are great, they also feature really wonderful art.

Both Iconik Coffee Roasters (1600 Lena St., 428-0996) and The Betterday Coffee Shop (905 W Alameda St., 780-8059) consistently prove that cafés can also be legitimate galleries for fine art. Currently at Betterday is some amazing work by Lucia Lopez. The opening reception is 3-5 pm Saturday, April 15. Iconik is currently featuring the nature photography of Ed MacKerrow.

Counter Culture Café (930 Baca St., 995-1105) and the Railyard location of Second Street Brewery (1607 Paseo de Peralta, 989-3278) also feature a rotating lineup of local arts. Counter Culture most recently featured a narrative photo project by Kyle Gray. Second Street has a new show of work by Adam Gascho up on April 20.
