This Weekend

Oh hey, 2017

Well, we made it! And despite whatever arbitrary hopes we have that all of 2016's sadness will magically disappear, we'll probably still have plenty to be sad about. Guess we'll just need to have more fun this year to take some of the sting out—that's straight science.

Spaulding creates a sculpture using constructed and pre-made industrial ceramic pieces bound with steel straps. The piece represents the world we live in and its lawyers of mobile communication, construction and commerce. Find the mobile gallery in front of the New Mexico Museum of Art for this opening event. Through Jan. 29.

A trio of sax, bass and drums presents an evening of jazz beyond boundaries. Get challenged with unique melodies and intelligent construction.

Deluxe performs heavy rock with melodic choruses that are sometimes all operatic. Damn, Jessi, you so fine.

Franks discusses the opera Nabucco, which plays at 11 am at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

Flores performs a rockabilly and honky-tonk concert with Susan Holmes at the Kitchen Sink Recording Studio, which is a cool new thing they do now.

Longtime friends and collaborators Gerry Carthy (Irish music) and Chris Abeyta (Latin music) blend their talents.

Refugees from the Middle East and Africa take questions from the public in an open discussion about our Muslim neighbors and discuss what non-Muslims can do to help them feel welcome. Please be cool while you're there.

This new dance studio specializes in Nia, a combination of dance, martial arts and healing arts that is intended for people of all ages and body types. Their grand opening event features a community jam class taught by instructors Lisa McGee, Christine Curran, Sarah Nickerson and Betsy Love.

Best selling authors gather to read from their works during this week-long series. This evening features McFadden—a writer, photographer and professor of English at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Frazier—an IAIA graduate and Gonzales—author of the collection titled The Miniature Wife and Other Stories. The readings take place in the auditorium in the Library and Technology center.
