Egolf and Wirth Consider New Leadership Roles
Two Democrat Santa Fe lawmakers are looking at running for for new legislative leadership roles. Now that the Democrats have regained control of the state House, Rep. Brian Egolf, 40, is expected to replace outgoing Speaker of the House Don Tripp (R-Socorro). And Sen. Peter Wirth is looking to replace the void left by Sen. Michael Sanchez in the Senate, but he may face competition Senate Majority Whip Sen. Michael Padilla (D-Albuquerque), who is also considering running for Sanchez’ position.

Payday Lender Owes Customers Millions
“A state court judge has ordered payday lender FastBucks to pay $32.2 million in restitution to New Mexicans for circumventing a state law designed to curb payday lending and putting customers into installment loans they couldn’t pay off,” according to an ABQ Free Press report.

Lobos Still in Contention
University of New Mexico football fans are excited that the team, with six wins and three losses, is still in the hunt for the Mountain West Conference season title and are bowl-eligible for the second consecutive season. The Lobos head to Utah State this weekend.
