Locals ring in '07 with resolve.
It's that time of year again.
The time when we jettison all of our 2006 baggage and prepare to greet the new year with a glassful of frothy champagne and a gutful of steely resolve. The slate is wiped clean as soon as the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 1, and 365 pristine days full of possibility stretch out before us.
We'll eat less. We'll exercise more. We will be kinder to animals and small children. We'll spend more time with family and less with the dancers at Cheeks. We will quit drinking, smoking and crushing mailboxes with baseball bats just for fun.
At least until Jan. 2.
But the point of a New Year's resolution is in the spirit, not the letter, of the law. They're not so much rules as they are guidelines. That said, here is what a handful of Santa Feans resolve to do in 2007:

To ensure that the International Conference on Creative Tourism and our civic center actually come to fruition. To learn to live by Maya Angelou's quote: 'I've learned that people will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.'"

"For the new year, I would like to see more positive movement in the resolution of the biggest social and economic issues of our times so that we can all take time to appreciate the rich cultural heritage that abounds in our state and our nation. Start your own band! Get your friends to bring their bands from out of town and, for heaven's sake, go out and support our local music scene. It's nothing without you."
