Bah, Humbug

Break free from your holidaze

We ask you, what is one to do if they really aren’t into Christmas? Maybe you’re a different religion. Maybe you’re sick of the rampant consumer-based violence. Or maybe you just don’t give a shit. Well, we’re here to tell you that it’s perfectly OK and to suggest some options for all y’all who just can’t take it anymore. For example, if you head to L’Olivier (229 Galisteo St., 989-1919) around 5:30 pm on Dec. 25 with your significant other, you can get some serious-ass swoons going down with the guitar music of Jesse Vernier and/or the delicious food offerings available. The Cava Lounge in the Eldorado Hotel (309 W San Francisco St., 988-4455) probably won’t find a drunk governor going to town on some pizza again anytime soon, but the dulcet tones of the Pat Malone Jazz Trio are another great, relaxing choice and a marvelous backdrop to the fancy drinks you might imbibe. Let’s not forget that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out now, either, and we personally recommend patronizing the Violet Crown Cinema (1606 Alcaldesa St., 216-5678) for this one. They’ve got the massive beer list, and we can all just admit that Star Wars fans are also pizza fans. Besides, how much longer can you wait while also avoiding spoilers? Outside of these suggestions, Christmas Day is actually about the best time of the year to simply get out and walk the city streets. Santa Fe can be very beautiful when it feels as if you’re the only human or humans left on earth. The calm and quiet cold of the season also feels slightly more appropriate during this particular holiday, and a walk don’t cost a thing. I mean, if you aren’t down with Christmas, is there anything better than spending an afternoon enjoying your alone time in a town you somehow often forget is gorgeous?
