Un-Domestic Violence
This week, we must ask ourselves, "Are horrific acts of public violence different from the individual acts of family violence perpetrated behind closed door?" Both are a reflection of deep societal problems. There is no single law, no specific law enforcement strategy, no branch of our justice system that alone can reduce violence.
Santa Fe Safe, the Coordinated Community Response Council for the City of Santa Fe, brings together law enforcement agencies, advocates, health care providers and community members to develop and implement innovative programs that address the immediate needs of victims, as well as long-term strategies for reducing violence.
Santa Fe Safe seeks to engage the entire community in an effort to change the social norms and attitudes that contribute to domestic violence.
Our next meeting on Jan. 20 will include a panel discussion dealing with local program that empower men to resolve family issues.

Document Everything
Toska's work demonstrates the importance of people documenting their own history and the value of younger people probing older members of their families and communities about their experiences, however uncomfortable the responses might be.
