News, Oct. 14: “Game On”

Too Many Buffs

To characterize the drop in numbers of the buffalo herd in Nambé as part of a run of bad luck—for the pueblo or the animals —may be to misunderstand the intentions of the pueblo and its Environmental and Natural Resources Department. The previous herd of 40 animals was likely too large to be grazed properly, and the costs for both supplemental feed and fence are high.

Most fenced grazing acres in the Southwest are insufficient to support a bison herd. Once the forage is exhausted, the damage these large, hoofed animals can do while penned to the land is often irreversible.

Most pueblos have not, historically, penned bison. Bison are built to thunder and roam across the plains, and any move in that direction should be celebrated.

Charge Them

Why isn't anyone being charged? Why the fuck are my tax dollars going towards this shit and these assholes walk? No charges. We Americans are paying their salary and we demand they be held accountable for this!

A Real Travesty

There is a lot here that has been intentionally concealed by those on either side of this debacle.

The real travesty is not that Bureau of Land Management violated its own policy, but rather that they would establish policy in direct contradiction to law, and it is ironic that advocates would then criticize BLM for disregarding these illegal policies despite the fact that they were only put into place to protect the horses.

No One Cares

I find that no one seems to care that their license won't be valid in federal facilities or airports. Are New Mexicans really that complacent? Can I bill the state or Martinez herself for my passport fee?
