This is Halloween

Everybody scream, or least leave the house

H alloween is upon us, and that means everyone is looking for things to do, parties to attend, candy to eat and drinks to drink. Samhain is this weekend, too, which means there are tons of options to mull over. Hopefully, we can help narrow down your choices with our following picks.

Nosferatu w/The Invincible Czars @CCA

(1050 Old Pecos Trail, 982-1338)

At 7 pm Thursday, Oct. 29, Texas rock/klezmer act Invincible Czars accompanies the original (and silent) cinematic vampire. That ought to get you in the mood for spooks, and for a measly $12 ($10 in costume).

Boomroots Collective @The Palace

(142 W Palace Ave., 428-0690)

No, reggae isn't inherently Halloween-ish, but if you and your friends are looking to make a weekend out of it, you can rock some bong rips before you head to the Palace on Oct. 30 and trip out on the crimson décor. The 10 pm show is $7, but you love supporting local music anyway.

Cloacas @Second Street Brewery (Railyard)

(1607 Paseo de Peralta, 989-3278)

With an experimental and gothic-adjacent take on old-timey folk music, Cloacas is the perfect way to have fun on Oct. 30 without going so nuts on the drinking that you spend the actual Halloween hung over. That's for Nov. 1, thank you. Plus, there's no cover for this 7 pm performance.

4th Annual Weird Science Night @The Santa Fe Children’s Museum

(1050 Old Pecos Trail, 989-8359)

Find a family event from 4-7 pm on Oct. 31 as the Santa Fe Children's Museum teaches you and your kids how to make slime, invisible ink, erupting volcanoes and other cool science projects. Costumes are encouraged, and the whole thing is only $5.

Halloween Party @The Matador

(116 W San Francisco St.)

When Halloween is upon us, y'all can pre-game at the punkest bar in town (that also means the strongest drinks) with DJ Prairiedog and his rockabilly/country jams. No cover for the 9 pm show sweetens the deal, and the dive atmosphere makes you feel like you're a real person.

Sky Wars @Skylight

(139 W San Francisco St., 982-0775)

Why choose between Star Wars and zombies when your favorite downtown hot spot realizes they belong together? Skylight hosts the perfect Halloween night pop culture marriage with a special evening of music from DJs Sol Bentley, 12 Tribe and AudioBuddha, starting at 7 pm. Plus there's audio-visual madness and a galaxy far, far away's worth of radness. That's a steal at $10.
