Here’s the Thing, Aug. 19: “Business as Usual”

Clarify This

I appreciate Andrea L Mays' recent visits to local Post Offices, but several things in her column require clarification.

First of all, I apologize to Ms. Mays for any longer-than-typical experiences she may have had in our retail lobbies. I advise customers to visit at times other than our peak traffic periods (early morning, lunchtime and just before closing) whenever possible. I also want to remind Ms. Mays and your readers that stamps and postage for packages may be conveniently purchased online at usps.com.

Secondly, the USPS has no interest in privatization. We're looking to grow our business and provide expanded access to products and services through retail partners as well as in our own locations and online. Alternate retail locations such as Contract Postal Units inside local businesses offer postage and services at regular USPS prices and longer hours than most Post Offices; usps.com has information on locations.

Ridiculous

I've been genuinely amazed at how awful the Postal Service here has been...Just this week, I had to spend many hours tracking down a package that was supposedly delivered and was nowhere to be found, driving to the post office because nobody answers the damn phone, waiting outside for them to open 15 minutes late, standing in more ridiculous lines while the attendants are doing who knows what other than helping the other people.

Not once did they indicate any apology, [say] that I would receive it, or take responsibility for resolving the situation...After three trips, they finally left me a key for a locker where the package had been sitting for the past four days...I wouldn't dream of sending anything important here, which is kind of a hard to do if you have a normal life.

News, Aug. 19: “Up in the Air”

Whose Resources?

PNM is taking advantage of everyone in New Mexico, price gouging us even though they are using our natural resources to provide power. There is no financial incentive for them to change from natural gas in the forseeable future. We the government need to push the change to wind/solar.
