Hey, it's not us.
But damn it if it isn't nerve-wracking.
, The Gannett Company—America's largest newspaper publishing company—is giving its workers a surprise vacation. One beautiful week at home with their probably unemployed relatives, free and unpaid! The temporary furlough will be conducted in an attempt to stave off layoffs.
How such efforts will affect the dire straits in which print media finds itself—high production costs, less advertising revenue, fewer subscriptions—is unclear. It's also unclear whether this measure means a break from USA today or just an unwanted break from work, you know, a week in which you can't afford to go anywhere or buy anything.
