Bring your patience, your appetite and your appreciation for old world flavors. No doubt you're familiar with this cozy corner spot's long lines for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you make plans to eat there, face facts: You're gonna wait. But if ever a cliché were true, Pasqual's is worth it. Big time. Where else can the flavors of Pan Asian and Old Mexico mix with such subtlety and aplomb, where a Thai shrimp in coconut sauce can share a table with chocolatey chicken molé? And, despite the grand portions, don't be tempted to skip the apps-at least try the
Iroquois corn tamale with ancho chile, asadero cheese and a zucchini that will win over even those who can't stand that particular gourd. But only the foolish would choose to skip a Pasqual's breakfast. Go nuevo with a sundried tomato and pesto omelet, or kick it Yucatan-style with the huevos motulenos-fried eggs covered in black beans, sautéed plantains and feta cheese. No matter what you order, you'll know it's fresh, organic and probably locally grown. Except for maybe the plantains.
