The vibrancy and diverse texture of Ming Fay’s work is astounding, as if he imagined the strangest botanical organisms he could muster and then shaped them from wire, foam, paint and papier-mâché. As an artist, Fay has always been fascinated with the idea of a utopian garden, and he researched the planet’s strangest plants to draw inspiration for his sprawling indoor jungles. He only recently started to include human and animal symbolism in his work, as if his art evolved much like life did: first a zygote of an idea, then color and shape, and finally, intellectual meaning. His handmade otherworldly sculptures transport the viewer to another land that is fully man-made, yet strangely organic in its eccentricity.
